It is with great pleasure that we invite you to the inaugural session of the Japan Middle School Model United Nations (JMSMUN). This two-day online workshop and conference has been designed specifically for Japanese middle school students who are eager to experience the world of Model United Nations.
日本中学生模擬国連（JMSMUN）の第1回セッションに皆様をご招待できることを大変嬉しく思います。この2日間のオンラインワークショップ兼会議は、模擬国連の世界を体験したいと考えている日本の中学生のために特別に設計されました。
Model United Nations develops critical skills that extend far beyond the conference room: public speaking, diplomatic negotiation, critical thinking, and cross-cultural understanding. Through this workshop, delegates will learn the fundamentals of MUN procedure while engaging with one of today's most pressing global challenges: space debris.
模擬国連は、会議室を超えて広がる重要なスキルを育成します：パブリックスピーキング、外交交渉、批判的思考、そして異文化理解です。このワークショップを通じて、参加者は現代の最も緊急な地球規模の課題の一つである宇宙デブリに取り組みながら、MUN手続きの基礎を学びます。
Our first day will focus on education and preparation. Delegates will learn how to write opening statements, understand resolutions, draft amendments, and master Points of Information. On the second day, we will put these skills into practice with a full mini-conference experience, complete with debate, negotiation, and voting procedures.
初日は教育と準備に焦点を当てます。参加者は開会演説の書き方を学び、決議案を理解し、修正案を起草し、質問手続きをマスターします。2日目には、これらのスキルを討論、交渉、投票手続きを含む完全なミニ会議体験で実践します。

Why this topic matters: Space debris is leftover junk in orbit—dead satellites, rocket parts, even paint chips. All of it moves extremely fast, faster than a bullet. A small hit can break a working satellite and make many more fragments; this chain reaction is called the Kessler Syndrome. If key satellites fail, everyday services are disrupted: weather forecasts, maps and GPS, emergency response, finance, TV, and internet links. In this workshop we focus on simple, practical ideas: design satellites that don't leave trash, follow clear end‑of‑life rules, avoid risky tests that make debris, improve tracking and removal, and agree on common rules between countries and companies.
重要性： 宇宙デブリは、使われなくなった衛星やロケットの破片、塗装片など、宇宙に残った「ごみ」です。とても速く（銃弾より速いことも）飛ぶため、小さな破片でも衛星を壊し、新たな破片を生みます。これが連鎖して増える現象を「ケスラー・シンドローム」と呼びます。衛星が止まると、天気予報、地図・GPS、災害対応、金融や通信など、私たちの日常に大きな影響が出ます。今回のワークショップでは、①ごみを出さない設計、②寿命後の確実な処理、③デブリを増やす実験をしない、④追跡・除去の技術、⑤各国・企業で共有するルールなどを話し合います。
